How to Edit and Update Product Information
Not all product fields can be edited after a product moves beyond Draft status. Some changes—such as to quantity, item contents, or primary brand—may require assigning a new GTIN based on GS1 GTIN Management Rules. Use the GTIN Decision Support Tool to confirm whether a change requires a new GTIN.
For a product in the Archived status, the only action you can take is to change the status back to In Use and then make specific changes, if needed.
Navigate to My Products & Barcodes
Click the blue GTIN hyperlink for the Product
Click the Edit Product button
Make your updates and save your changes
This table lists all of the details and provides guidance on whether they can be modified when the product is in either the PreMarket or In Use status.
While you can change either the Product Description or Brand Name for a product set to In Use, this is commonly done to correct a typographical error. You cannot change the Product Description to reflect a new product, per the GTIN Management Standard: "Any new product requires the assignment of a GTIN."
Similarly, based on the impact of the Brand Name change on your trading partners, you may want to consider assigning a new GTIN, per the GTIN Management Standard: "A change to the primary brand that appears on the trade item, requires assignment of a new GTIN."
